Technical Assistance

Window #278 Print
Page 2B-79

I am interested in this window design, but have a few questions. 1) Are the center swags attached to each other with the horn overlaying them? 2) Are the center swags attached to the outside swags? 3) What is your recommended distance from the outside point (at medallion) edge of the swag draping up to the center swag?
I did not see any technical instructions in the Designer’s Digest. To give you an idea of what I am working with; my window is 172” casing to casing (center French door with a single window on each side. Each single window is 40”. The width of the French door to the inside of the casing of each window is 92” (bracket to bracket for the center rod). From bracket to outside edge of single window is 40” on each side.

Questions 1 and 2 are answered on page 2B-80 of the Designer’s Digest. The width of the swag you choose can be anything between 18” and 30”, because that is the limit of the patterns involved. You could put 3 Versailles swags over the French doors (that is 90”) and 2 raised swags over the 40” windows (20” each). The rise is 6” to 8” (see page 2B-92 of the Designer’s Digest).

I am considering using a pucker fabric with a plaid design. For pattern 9279 the Fabric Suggestions do not recommend a stripe for the jabots and tails. Would the plaid cause the same problem or could I use it? I am also considering making the 9273 swags longer. Would this work with the side swags 9279, horn 9247 and jabots and tails 9247?
Plaid is the same as stripes, only worse. You have 2 sets of stripes! You can’t use 9247 jabots with Window 278. It can’t install on a holdback. Horn 9247 may be too short for swag 9273.

I was looking at your website, and I was wondering if you can tell me which patterns are used in the picture on the front cover of the “Design Inspirations Volume 2” booklet? I would like to make that design but do not know which patterns to use.
That is window 278. The middle swags are pattern 9272. Make these swags separate. Butt them together on the pole. Do not use pipes, do not use returns. The side swags are pattern 9279. The high point is 8” higher than the outside ends. Attach the top to the same pole as the middle swags. The middle horn is pattern 9247. Attach to the pole separately, overlapping the middle swags. Decorative brackets are needed for the pole because the swags do not have a return. Install according to the 9272 pattern. The holdbacks and pole must have the same projection. The jabots and tails are 9279 pattern.
