I am making a kingston pole swag (1st time) for a client who wants the variation (window 78-M’Fay Swag Designs) which uses rings instead of attaching directly to the pole. I have a few questions:
1) The treatment has only 4 5/8” from left moulding to wall and 5” from moulding to a fireplace on the right. Would you still use returns or leave it open on the sides? If I use returns do I punch a hole in fabric to screw in the end caps (no room for finials)? Pole is a 2 1/4” ribbed pole from Select and return is 4 1/4”.
2) Since they hang from rings do I still need to deduct 3” from pole measurement to decide on swag measurement?

When using rings, the valance and returns will hang below the pole. The 9203 Kingston has the droop area figured into it. You don’t need to allow for any more. If you want an 18” wide swag, use the 18” swag, it will hang 18” and still have the necessary droop. The instructions in the Manual tells you to gather the top of the horn. This will end up to be about 1” or so. You should deduct about that amount. I doubt if your bracket will be low enough that you can attach the return to it. I would use a return. You can hook it to the wall. Another idea is to make the return about 1” wider than you need. You can then curl it under and attach it to the wall with velcro.
